Investigators treat death of Armenian soldier as suicide

The death of the contract soldier, Gor Sarkisyan, in one of the military units of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) is being investigated as a case of bringing to suicide, the Investigative Committee of Armenia has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that body of Gor Sarkisyan was found in the evening on December 1 at the combat position of one of the MoD's units with a wound in the chest area.

In his comment to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, Artsrun Ovannisyan, the press secretary of the Armenian MoD, said that Gor Sarkisyan's death was not a combat one; no inquiry details are known so far, he has added.

The death case is being investigated as a case of bringing to suicide, the Investigative Committee of Armenia has stated.

According to the Caspian Defence Studies Institute (CDSI), in the period from January to June 2018, in Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh, the number of non-combat deaths reached 19. In particular, seven soldiers were killed as a result of accidents, two were killed by their fellow soldiers, two died from deceases, one died because of violation of security rules, and three died from other reasons.
