Chechen SC cancels decision on CER for Zhalaudi Geriev

Today, at the prosecutor's request, the Supreme Court (SC) of Chechnya has cancelled the decision on the conditional early release (CER) for Zhalaudi Geriev, a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in September 2016, Zhalaudi Geriev was sentenced to three years of imprisonment on the charge of marijuana possession. The defence insists on the illegality of the verdict. On September 18, the Naur District Court pronounced a decision on the CER for Zhalaudi Geriev. On September 28, Chechen Deputy Prosecutor Dushin appealed against the decision pronounced by the Naur District Court.

Today, the Supreme Court of Chechnya has cancelled the decision on the CER for Zhalaudi Geriev, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has been informed by Alaudi Musaev, an advocate of Zhalaudi Geriev.

According to the advocate, the question of the CER for Zhalaudi Geriev will now be considered in the Naur District Court. "We'll wait for the appointment of the date for the court hearing, and we will get prepared for it. Zhalaudi Geriev himself is determined to be strong," the advocate said.

Let us remind you that on June 25, the defence of Zhalaudi Geriev sent a complaint in the journalist's case to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR). The Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" recognized Zhalaudi Geriev as a political prisoner.
