A police officer detained after beating a resident of Buynaksk

The chief of the GIBDD (road police) Department for the Buynaksk District is suspected of abuse of office, the law enforcement bodies report today.

According to investigators, in early October, in Buynaksk, a police officer stopped a local resident who was driving a Gazel car. The police officer behaved rudely, "used bad language," and demanded to produce documents for the car and the driver's licence. Meanwhile, according to investigators, the police officer took the keys off the car ignition and threw them on the roadway. "After that, he struck the driver to the head and neck area and left the place of the incident," reported the press service of the Investigating Department for Dagestan of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF).

Investigators instituted a criminal case under Paragraph "a" of Part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (abuse of power with the use of violence). The suspect is arrested. "The issue of electing a pre-trial restriction measure is under consideration," states the report posted today on the ICRF's website.
