Chelyabinsk operative agents accused of native of Chechnya's death in colony

The Metallurgical District Court of Chelyabinsk has held parties' debates on a criminal case initiated against four staff members of a correctional colony accused of beating up convicts and involvement in the death of a Chechen native. The prosecutor demanded from six years to 12.5 years in prison for them.

The incident that led to the prisoner's death occurred in the inspection room of the dungeon (punishment cell) on December 21, 2015, Bulat Mukhamedjanov, an advocate of the human rights organization "Zone of Law", told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to investigators, on the grounds of personal hostile attitude, one of the colony staff hit a convicted, Sultan Israilov, a Chechen native, after which the latter fell on a bench, hitting his head against the wall. Then, two operative agents handcuffed the convict and beat and kicked him up with fists and feet, as well as with a stick.

Investigators have established that the agents found a scarf, made a loop and put it around Israilov's neck. Then, they tied the end of the scarf to the metal bars of the dungeon window, fixing the man in one position, and left the cell.

"Israilov had no chance to move and release himself from the loop that suffocating him. As a result, he died," said Andrei Lepyokhin, another advocate from the "Zone of Law", who represents the interests of Sultan Israilov's brother.
