Over 500 militaries exercise in Abkhazia

At military exercises in Abkhazia, anti-aircraft gunners of the Russia's Southern Military District (SMD) repelled air strikes of a conditional enemy on important republic's facilities. The exercises involved more than 60 weapons and equipment units, the SMD has informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in late September, large-scale exercises were launched in Southern of Russia and in Southern Caucasus (Transcaucasia). About 45,000 soldiers and officers from the regions of the Southern Federal District (SFD) and North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD), as well as from the Russian military bases in Armenia, Abkhazia and South Ossetia were involved therein.

The "Interfax" reports, referring to the SMD, that during these exercises, militaries mastered their skills of taking and masking their launch positions, organizing the communications and control systems, of intelligence, and others.

These exercises involved about 500 militaries, more than 60 units of air defence complexes and military equipment, including the S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems, and "Osa-AKM", "Strela-10" complexes and the "Igla" portable air defence weapons.
