Two residents of Chechnya publicly apologize for mass fight at wedding party

In Shali, a conflict between participants of a wedding party cortege provoked a mass fight. The men apologized on the air of the TV Channel. Some local residents found the practice of public apology in Chechnya inadmissible.

On September 17, WhatsApp users disseminated video records with a mass fight at a wedding party after a car collision.

On the air of the "Grozny" ChGTRC (Chechen State TV and Radio Company), authors of the story explained that the fight took place in the city of Shali last weekend. The incident occurred despite the fact that participants of the wedding party cortege were asked to behave "in a proper way."

The Kadi of the Shali District has condemned the actions of the young people.

Turpal-Ali Sakhabov and Magomed Yasaev, the very participants of the incident, have explained the incident by a misunderstanding.

"I get annoyed when people are forced to ask for forgiveness on the TV air. If a person is guilty, then punish him or her. Why should he or she be disgraced to the whole world?" believes Fatima, an NGO member.

Earlier, residents of Chechnya have repeatedly made public apologies and refused their statements concerning the authorities. One of the first such cases occurred in December 2015, when Adam Dikaev criticized Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov.

The tradition to challenge the place behind the bride's car has a long history, historian Timur explained. The custom is spread to cars of a wedding party cortege.
