Kadyrov accuses 60 well-known Russians of putting pressure on court in Oyub Titiev's case

Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov treats a letter, in which cultural figures, journalists and religious figures asked President Vladimir Putin "to put an end to the persecution of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) 'Memorial'."

Starting from January 11, Oyub Titiev, the head of the HRC "Memorial" office in Grozny, is being kept in custody on the charge of marijuana possession. The rights defender claimed the drugs had been planted to him by a law enforcer.

An appeal in support of Oyub Titiev was also published by Lada Estemirova, a daughter of Chechen rights defender Natalia Estemirova. She called for the rescue of the rights defender.

"There is nothing wrong when someone takes care of the fate of a person. Meanwhile, it is necessary to tell the truth. The letter states that 'the case against Oyub Titiev is fabricated by the authorities,' and he "is avenged for his human rights activities.' Those conclusions do not correspond to reality!" Ramzan Kadyrov wrote in his Telegram.

According to the leader of Chechnya, Oyub Titiev "did not defend publicly a single person," and "his problems are not relevant to human rights activities."

Members of the Council under the leader of Chechnya believe the authors of the letter in defence of Oyub Titiev could be misled "by some initiators or could deliberately defame the authorities in Chechnya."

Earlier, Ramzan Kadyrov has said that the international agencies are interested in the fate of a "drug addict" detained in Chechnya.
