ARF "Dashnaktsutyun" calls on to limit power of Armenian Prime Minister

Today, the Armenian Parliament has started consultations of the factions concerning the election of the head of the Armenian Cabinet of Ministers. A member of the ARF "Dashnaktsutyun" faction has stated that the Parliament should have control over the police and the National Security Service.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 1, opposition leader Nikol Pashinyan failed to get the necessary number of MPs' votes to be appointed the Prime Minister of Armenia. On May 3, the factions of the "Elk" Party, the Tsarukyan bloc and the ARF "Dashnaktsutyun" re-nominated the oppositionist to become the Prime Minister of Armenia. The voting on his candidature, which again remains the only one, is scheduled for May 8.

Today, Armen Rustamyan, the head of the ARF "Dashnaktsutyun" faction, has announced that the delegates of party will vote for Nikol Pashinyan.

Meanwhile, Armen Rustamyan has emphasized that after the election, the Constitution of Armenia should be amended and, in particular, the power of the Prime Minister should be reduced.

"The control over the police and the National Security Service follows from the logic of the parliamentary system of government. The parliament should have control over those bodies," noted Armen Rustamyan.

He also spoke for the creation of a national consent government in case if Nikol Pashinyan was elected to the post of the Prime Minister of Armenia, the portal "Hot News from Armenia" reports.
