Catholicos of All Armenians calls on authorities and opposition to refrain from violence

In Yerevan, participants of protest actions have blocked for an hour the crossroads in the centre of the Armenian capital. The Armenian authorities and the opposition should act within the framework of the law and seek ways to reconciliation, Garegin II, the head of the Armenian Apostolic Church, has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that May 1, the Armenian MPs failed to elect the opposition leader Nikol Pashinyan, who was the only candidate, to the post of the country's Prime Minister. If they fail to elect the Premiere by May 8, the Parliament will be dissolved. At a rally, Nikol Pashinyan called on his supporters to block streets and governmental buildings.

After the oppositional rally on May 1 in Yerevan, activists blocked streets with their cars, and also held a "last ring" action: they went out onto the balconies and knocked the ladles on the pots.

Garegin II has expressed his concern about the "tense situation" in the country and called on to seek solution to the crisis through negotiations.
