RPA refuses to nominate its candidate to post of Prime Minister

After the meeting with Serzh Sargsyan and Karen Karapetyan, delegates of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) refused to nominate their candidate for the post of the Prime Minister of Armenia.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that today, opposition leader Nikol Pashinyan has called for direct negotiations with the RPA faction and invited all the RPA's delegates to discuss the way out of the political crisis.

Until present, only the "Elk" faction, which members nominated Nikol Pashinyan, announced the nomination of its candidate for the post of the Prime Minister of Armenia. Nikol Pashinyan called on his supporters to come to the streets of Yerevan on May 1, when the Armenian Parliament will elect the Prime Minister.

After the today's meeting with RPA's leader Serzh Sargsyan, former President and Prime Minister of Armenia, and acting Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan, delegates from the RPA have made the decision not to nominate their candidate for the post of the chair of the new government. According to Eduard Sharmazanov, Vice Speaker for the Armenian Parliament and the press secretary of the RPA faction, the party follows this way in seeking to avoid destabilization of the country.

Eduard Sharmazanov has noted that the RPA will discuss the candidatures of all candidates for the post of the Prime Minister of Armenia, presented before 6:00 p.m. on April 30. On May 1, the RPA's delegates will decide whom to support.
