Activist detained for solo picket in central Sochi

Tonight, Valery Tuaev was detained during his solo picket with a poster in the square near the Sochi administration.

According to his story, he held his picket aiming to draw attention to the unfair presidential election in Russia. He made this conclusion based on his own experience of working for the precinct election commission (PEC).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 18, the voting took place at the presidential election in Russia. Observers reported numerous violations.

Vadim Polikanov, an eyewitness of Tuaev's detention, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that five or six law enforcers surrounded the activist during his picket.

"They asked him why he had come out; and the guy told them that he worked at the PEC and believed that the election was dishonest; therefore, he expresses his opinion by a solo picket, which he has the right to do. [Law enforcers] demanded from him, with no reason, to get into a police car, without explaining the reasons for his detention, but threatening to draw up a protocol on disobedience to policemen's legitimate demands. However, Valery Tuaev rendered no disobedience. He folded up his poster and went to the car," said the eyewitness of the detention.
