NATO ships arrive in Batumi for exercises

The exercises with the participation of the flagship "Regele Ferdinand" and a NATO ship under the Turkish flag are aimed at increasing the interaction of naval forces, the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Georgia has no naval forces of its own. In November 2016, the country's Defence Minister spoke categorically against the creation of the Navy because of the high costs of maintaining thereof.

The NATO's flagship of the permanent second ant-mine grouping – the "Regele Ferdinand" frigate – and a ship of the NATO's naval unit under the Turkish flag have arrived at the Batumi Port. The arrival of two more ships of NATO member countries is expected, the "News-Georgia" quotes the country's MIA, which has added that NATO ships are visiting Georgia for the third time.
