Akhmed Akhmedov released on recognizance not to leave

Akhmed Akhmedov, a specialist in Islamic medicine, has been released from the police on recognizance not to leave. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by the detainee's wife. Akhmed Akhmedov is charged with arms trafficking, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) reports.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that 43-year-old Akhmed Akhmedov, well-known in Dagestan as "Doctor Akhmad", an expert in Islamic medicine, stopped contacting his relatives and friends in the afternoon on September 24. On September 25, advocate Israfil Gadadov found out that Akhmed Akhmedov was being kept at the ROVD (District Interior Division) for the Kirov District of Makhachkala. However, the advocate was not allowed to visit the defendant.

At 11:26 p.m. Moscow time on September 27, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by the Akhmed Akhmedov's wife that her husband was released on recognizance not to leave and stayed at home.

On September 27, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was also informed by a Dagestani MIA's official that Akhmed Akhmedov had been charged with arms trafficking under Part 1 of Article 222 of the Russian Criminal Code).

The sanctions of the above Article of the Russian Criminal Code provide for maximum punishment in the form of four years of imprisonment.

Till present, no comments from Akhmed Akhmedov himself and his advocate concerning the charge filed are available for the "Caucasian Knot".
