Azerbaijani believers start celebrating Eid al-Adha

Today, Azerbaijan, like the whole Muslim world, has started the celebration of Eid al-Adha. Muslims of the country make sacrifices of small and large cattle. Mosques hold festive prayers. On the occasion of the holiday, four days in a row September 1-4 have been declared the days off in the country.

The Sacrifice Feast of Eid al-Adha is celebrated 70 days after the holiday of Eid al-Fitr and falls on the 10th day of the sacred month of Dhu al-Hijjah. The celebration takes place within three days and marks the end of the pilgrimage to Mecca.

In the centre of Baku, the ceremonies in the mosques "Azhdarbey" and "Teze Peer" have become the most massive. Halls and yards of those mosques were filled with several thousand people. From early morning, people started to perform the rite of sacrifice.

The Ministry of Agriculture organized fairs for sale of cattle in four district of Baku, including the Sabail, Narimanov, Khatai and Yasamal Districts. The places for livestock slaughter were also arranged there, with veterinary control.

Despite the large number of sellers, there was a rush demand at the trading places. At the large Keshli market of Baku, seller Alekper told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that he sold 30 sheep during an hour.

"We sold 30 sheep during an hour. Our assistants do not have time to cut animals. However, some buyers complain about high prices. Meanwhile, the prices are set up not by us, but by wholesalers," noted the seller.
