Sochi authorities refuse to sanction LGBT actions

The Sochi administration has refused to sanction a gay parade and LGBT rallies in September. Earlier, the authorities of Anapa, Gelendzhik, and Tuapse have also refused to sanction the LGBT actions.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Nikolai Alekseev, a founder of the Moscow Gay Pride, has filed notifications for holding rallies and marches in support of LGBT people in Anapa, Gelendzhik, Novorossiysk, Sochi, and Tuapse. The authorities of Anapa, Gelendzhik, and Tuapse refused to sanction the LGBT actions.

The Sochi authorities have banned the holding in the city of a gay parade and two LGBT rallies in support of the legalization of same-sex marriages in Russia and in support of the opening of the LGBT Pride House during the 2018 FIFA World Cup. This was reported in Facebook by Nikolai Alekseev, an initiator of the LGBT actions.

He plans to appeal to the Central District Court of Sochi to challenge the ban on the LGBT actions. The appeals have been already filed against the bans on holding LGBT actions in Anapa, Gelendzhik, and Tuapse. Besides, according to Nikolai Alekseev, if needed, the case will be brought to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).
