Georgia requests Ukraine to extradite Mikhail Saakashvili

The Chief Prosecutor's Office of Georgia has sent to the law enforcement agencies of several countries, including Ukraine, requests for the extradition of Mikhail Saakashvili.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 26, it became known that Mikhail Saakashvili was deprived of Ukrainian citizenship. Teya Tsulukiani, Georgian Minister of Justice, has stated that the Kiev authorities will be able to start the process for extradition of Mikhail Saakashvili to Georgia as soon as he returns to Ukraine. On August 7, Mikhail Saakashvili himself stated that he presented his Ukrainian passport on his trips and he was not asked any questions.

The deprivation of Mikhail Saakashvili of his Ukrainian citizenship has been explained by false information, indicated by him for obtaining a Ukrainian passport. Mikhail Saakashvili has stated that the application for Ukrainian citizenship does not bear his signature.

"The General Prosecutor's Office is negotiating with the competent authorities of different countries regarding Mikhail Saakashvili, and all necessary legal procedures are underway," reported the Prosecutor's Office as quoted by the "Imedi" TV Channel.

According to the report, the Georgian Prosecutor's Office has sent to the Ukrainian side a request to extradite Mikhail Saakashvili, the agency TASS reports.

In 2015, Mikhail Saakashvili was granted Ukrainian citizenship and appointed the chief of the Odessa Regional State Administration. In November 2016, Mikhail Saakashvili was dismissed from the post of the Odessa governor.
