In Georgia, six cities host actions against Draft Constitution

In Tbilisi, about 20 people attended a protest action against the adoption of the Draft Constitution. Protests were also held in the cities of Batumi, Gori, Zugdidi, Kutaisi, and Telavi, report members of the movement "Protect the Constitution".

The protest action in Tbilisi was organized by the public movement "Protect the Constitution" created by the opposition "United National Movement" (UNM) Party.

"We are protesting against the Draft Constitution proposed by the authorities. According to the draft, people are deprived of the right to free choice: citizens will be deprived of the right to elect a president of their own country. Moreover, following the election results, seats at the parliament are distributed unfairly. There is a great risk that the authorities will continue to steal mandates of the opposition parties," noted during the protest action David Lagvilava, the leader of the Saburtali district branch of the "United National Movement" Party.

According to him, the ruling "Georgian Dream-Democratic Movement" Party has initiated the draft of the constitutional amendments in an attempt to "legalize in the country an informal ruling of billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili, the former Prime Minister of Georgia and the founder of the 'Georgian Dream' Party."
