In Tbilisi, action in support of miners ended with police detentions

In Georgia, three persons were detained during an action held near the Parliament building in Tbilisi late in the evening of May 9. The protesters demanded to punish the persons responsible for the incident.

Let us remind you that on May 9, it was reported about the deaths of four persons who fell from the height of 400 meters in the "Mindeli" mine in the Georgian city of Tkibuli.

The action at the Parliament building was organized by the student movement "Auditorium 115". The protest was joined by civil activists and ordinary citizens.

The participants of the protest action have associated the incident at the "Mindeli" mine with the absence of an institution of labour inspection in Georgia and held the authorities responsible for the tragedy. The protesters demanded to carry out an urgent investigation into the incident and to punish the persons responsible for the incident.

The confrontation with the police occurred when the protesters tried to block the traffic in Rustaveli Avenue. The detainees are charged with disobedience to the police and disorderly conduct.

The detentions were recorded on video by journalists of Georgian TV channels. According to reporters of the "Imedi" TV Channel, the police acted very harshly, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.
