Dagestani truckers collect some 100 signatures for abolition of "Platon" system

The collection of signatures to the petition demanding to abolish the "Platon" system continues at the site of truckers’ protest near the city of Manas and in adjacent dwelling settlements, the protesters report.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 2, the truckers, striking near Manas, began collecting signatures to the petition addressed to the head of Dagestan and the Russian president and demanding to immediately abolish the "Platon" system.

On March 27, Russian truckers resumed their protests against the "Platon" system, which was created to collect payment from drivers of heavy trucks for travel on federal highways. On March 31, in Manas, policemen blocked the truckers and disrupted their intended motor rally to Makhachkala.

Within the last 24 hours, near Manas, truckers collected about 100 signatures, said Ruslan Magomedov, one of the protesters.

The action of truckers "continues at full speed," although "regional authorities do not react to the protest," said Idris Magomedov, another protester.

According to his story, the protest will not end until the truckers' demands are met. "Now, the parking lot near Manas has about 2000 trucks," said Idris Magomedov.
