Detained resident of Khasavyurt beaten up by police, defence states

Kasum Arslanaliev, a resident of Khasavyurt, was beaten up by policemen in Makhachkala, his relatives and advocate have stated.

According to his wife, on March 29, Kasum Arslanaliev was detained in Makhachkala on suspicion of illegal possession of arms and ammunition. She explains that his whereabouts became known on March 30.

Kasum was beaten up, his wife asserts: "On March 29, he left the house on business, and never returned; his phones wouldn’t answer. On March 30, I got a call from the police and was told that my husband was kept at one of police stations. I immediately called the advocate and asked him to visit my husband, "the detainee’s wife told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

In his turn, Musa Abdulkadyrov, the advocate of Kasum Arslanaliev, said that today, from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. he could not see his client at the police station.

"The on duty officer refused to let me in to my client without the investigator's permit; and the latter failed to issue one. I complained to the Dagestan Prosecutor's Office and the District Prosecutor's Office of Makhachkala. In the evening, around 6 p.m., I was allowed to see my client," the advocate told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to the advocate, "his client was indeed beaten up." "He was badly beaten; he is all in bruises. It is obvious that he was under strong pressure," said Musa Abdulkadyrov.
