Authorities report 16,000 participants in subbotniks in Grozny

Employees of state institutions and students higher schools of Grozny report they were forced to take part in mass subbotniks held in the Chechen capital. Officials of Grozny administration refute these accusations.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on March 1-31, Grozny announced a month of sanitary cleaning and improvement of the city. Employees of budgetary organizations are forced to participate in subbotniks not only on weekends, but also on working days, city residents report.

The Mayoralty of the Chechen capital has treated the allegations of coercion to participate in subbotniks as "fiction." A source from the Mayoralty has noted that in case of violations of his/her labour rights, any employee of any organization has the right to apply to supervisory authorities.
