Rustam Aptaev detained in Ali-Yurt subjected to torture, his defenders assert

Rustam Aptaev, a 36-year-old resident of Grozny, detained on December 13 by believers of a mosque in the village of Ali-Yurt in Ingushetia for the attempted murder of Isa Tsechoev, a well-known Islamic preacher, and brought to a police station, is being subjected to torture, since law enforcers force him to incriminate himself. This was reported by detainee's defenders and relatives.

At present, Rustam Aptaev is being kept at the IVS (detention facility) of the Nazran ROVD (District Interior Division). According to the resolution of the Nazran District Court issued on December 14, Rustam Aptaev is charged with failure to obey to a lawful request of a public officer. A copy of the Court's resolution is available to the "Caucasian Knot".

When commenting on the situation, advocate Luiza Buraeva told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that her client claimed he had been twice taken out of the IVS and tortured with electric current.

"According to my client, he was taken away on December 13... During the whole day, he was tortured with electric current, and they attached clamps to all permissible and impermissible parts of his body. I was not permitted to visit him until on December 15," said Luiza Buraeva.

The advocates discovered no visible signs of torture on the Rustam Aptaev's body.

"I have noticed no visible signs of beatings on my client's body. However, he was weak and pale, and he was unable to speak. He has headaches and he hardly understands what happens... He was forced to incriminate himself," said the advocate.
