Activist Igor Nagavkin left in custody in Volgograd

Today, the Volgograd Regional Court has upheld the decision of the Dzerzhinsky District Court on the arrest of activist Igor Nagavkin, but reduced it until November 16. Igor Nagavkin declared a hunger strike.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 2, Igor Nagavkin, the leader of the regional branch of movement "For Human Rights", was arrested for two months. The court's decision has been challenged.

On October 30, 2011, at a rally in memory of victims of political repressions, residents of Volgograd demanded to stop prosecution against Igor Nagavkin. He was suspected of an attempt to steal a tire of a police car. Igor Nagavkin himself associated the criminal case against him with his human rights activities.

At the court hearing, Igor Nagavkin has announced that starting from October 12, he is on a hunger strike because of his poor health and lack of medical treatment.
