Svetlana Gannushkina, the chair of the Committee "Civil Assistance", is nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2016. She can be awarded such a reward, in particular, for her activities on protection of migrants' rights. Kristian Berg Harpviken, Director of the Norwegian Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO), highly appreciates the Svetlana Gannushkina's chances for the victory. Sources of the "Caucasian Knot" in Oslo still note that the PRIO often makes mistakes in its forecasts.
Svetlana Gannushkina is the founder and chair of the Committee "Civil Assistance". In 1993, she took part in the creation of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial". The Committee led by Svetlana Gannushkina protects the rights of refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs), residents of Chechnya and other North-Caucasian republics.
In the context of a situation when the UN High Commissioner for Refugees reports the extremely high 65.3 million number of displaced persons in the world, the activities of Svetlana Gannushkina as the chair of the Committee "Civil Assistance" is particularly important. This is reported on the website of the Norwegian Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO).
The PRIOS also notes the activities of Svetlana Gannushkina as a member of the HRC "Memorial" and the Russian Presidential Council on Civil Society Development and Human Rights.
