In Kabardino-Balkaria, court obliges policemen to pay compensation to beaten teenagers
Today, the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" has reported that by the court decision, policemen Sosyrbey Shadzov and Oleg Bekulov, accused of beating two teenagers, are obliged to pay 170,000 roubles to each victim.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that according to investigators, in October 2012, staff members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) for Kabardino-Balkaria, beat and tortured two teenagers in an attempt to force them to confess to involvement in the armed underground. On March 6, 2015, the court sentenced Asker Abidov, a filed investigator of the Chegem ROVD (District Interior), to four years of imprisonment. The charge of beating the teenagers was also filed against Sosyrbey Shadzov and Oleg Bekulov. However, the case against them was closed due to amnesty.
On September 28, the Chegem District Court considered a civil suit filed by advocate Eva Chanieva, cooperating with the HRC "Memorial", for compensation of moral damage to two teenagers.
The Court has pronounced the decision to oblige Oleg Bekulov to pay 100,000 roubles and Sosyrbey Shadzov 70,000 roubles in favour of each of the victims, reports the release of the HRC "Memorial" received today by the "Caucasian Knot".
