On August 1-7, four persons fell victim to armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

During the week from August 1 to August 8, 2016, in the course of the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus, four persons were wounded. These are the results of the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

Attacks on law enforcers

On August 5, in the village of Karamakhi, Buynaksk District of Dagestan, an outfit of the patrol-and-post service (PPS) was shelled. Policemen were inspecting a vehicle, when unknown persons opened fire on them. As a result of a grenade launcher shot, three policemen and one civilian were wounded; and "Ural" and UAZ vehicles were damaged.

Special and counterterrorist operations

On August 2, at 11:00 a.m. Moscow time, the counterterrorist operation (CTO) regime was cancelled in the Magaramkent and Suleiman-Stalsky Districts, and in a part of the Kurakh District of Dagestan, because all the operative activities were over there. The CTO regime was in force in these districts since February.

Detentions

On August 4, a group of six was detained in the Baksan District of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR). Firearms, ammunition and jewellery were confiscated from the group members. Residents of the village of Dygulybgey supplied militants with foodstuffs and medications, law enforcers assert.

On August 4, four residents of Dagestan were detained on suspicion of helping, since 2010, members of illegal armed formations (IAFs), acting in the territory of the republic. The help was by providing housing and transport services, as well as by financing and supplying foodstuffs and medicines. The IAF members, who received help, were then liquidated during special operations, power agents report.

At night on August 5, law enforcers detained a resident of the Kirov District of Makhachkala, suspected of involvement with militants. During a search of his house, ammunition, a grenade and banned religious literature were found.

On August 5, policemen in uniforms and civilian clothes stood in the yards of the houses between Gagarin and Hungarian Warriors Streets, and in Eldarov Street, detaining the believers, who were returning from prayers in the Salafi mosque. They also stopped the cars passing through these yards; forced drivers into a police bus and took them away. In total, about 70 people were detained to check documents. Policemen also stopped the car of the Olympic champion in freestyle wrestling. By the morning of the next day, all the detainees were released.
