Festival of colours cancelled in Makhachkala

The Holi Festival of Colours has been cancelled at the "Cinema Hall" movie theatre after protests of residents of Dagestan.

A message about the cancellation of the festival has arrived today at the SMS-service of the "Caucasian Knot".

Calls to the Makhachkala youth to ignore the August 7 Holi Festival of Colours, which originates from the Hindu tradition, were proliferated on the Internet. Along with the criticism of the festival, which perverts young people, threats were addressed to those, who were going to take part in it.

The decision of the movie theatre to give up the idea was reported by Mikail Mikailov, the head of the division of preventive programmes and projects of the Ministry of Youth Matters of Dagestan.

As explained in the Instagram by officials of the movie theatre, they took into account "the negative response of the society," noting that the festival "had not been intended to harm the religion and Dagestani traditions, but had been conceived within the patriotic concept."
