ICRF recognizes Marem Tochieva as victim

The Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) has launched the investigation into the criminal case on abuse of power committed by staff members of the Ingush Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), suspected of using violence against Magomed Daliev, who died during interrogation at a police station, and his wife Marem Tochieva.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 16, the Ingush MIA reported that 50-year-old Magomed Daliev, suspected of involvement in a robbery of a bank in the village of Sunzha, died at the police station during the interrogation. According to the Ingush MIA, his death could be caused by a heart attack. Marem Tochieva, the wife of Magomed Daliev, was beaten by law enforcers and tortured. This was claimed by Sirazhdin Sultygov, a member of the public movement "Mekhk-Kkhel".

According to investigators, on July 15, unidentified staff members of the Centre for Combating Extremism of the Ingush MIA "committed actions clearly going beyond the limits of their official power. They used physical violence against 39-year-old local woman and her 50-year-old husband," demanding from the detainees to confess to involvement in a robbery of a bank office in the village of Sunzha. After that, the man died in the premises of the Centre for Combating Extremism, reports today the press service of the ICRF's Investigating Department for Ingushetia.

A criminal case has been instituted, and Marem Tochieva has been granted victim status and questioned. She is to undergo a forensic examination, reports the press service of the ICRF's Investigating Department for Ingushetia.
