Human rights defenders report on disappearance of two Dagestani residents

On June 16 and 17, 2016, Ramazan Rashidov and his relative Shamil Ramazanov, residents of Kaspiysk, disappeared under unclear circumstances. This was reported by the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial".

On June 16, Shamil Ramazanov, born in 1990; disappeared. He left a store, "said he would go to the marketplace and then stopped to answer to mobile phone calls," the human rights defenders report.

"On June 17, Ramazan Rashidov left Kaspiysk for Makhachkala in his car. He was to come to his job place at a 'Bosch' electric tools shop. However, he never came to his job. His relatives called him, and he answered that he would call them back. However, then his mobile phone was switched off," reports the press release disseminated by the HRC "Memorial".

According to relatives of Ramazan Rashidov, he has been persecuted by law enforcers for more than two years. And 1.5 years ago, his house was searched on suspicion of theft. "His family members believe that those searches were far-fetched pretexts," states the HRC "Memorial".

Both disappeared men are preventively registered at the police station. They have no earlier criminal records, and, according to the human rights defenders, the disappeared men were not engaged in anything illegal. Their relatives plan to appeal to the police.
