Journalist goes on hunger strike in Nakhchivan
Mohammed Rzayev, a correspondent for the Azadlyg newspaper in Azerbaijan's Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, went on a hunger strike on June 23. In his appeal to the media, organizations protecting journalists' rights and offices of the OSCE and the Council of Europe in Azerbaijan, he stated the reasons for his action. Two months ago, Mohammed Rzayev was abducted and beaten by police. The policemen who did it have not been punished and "continue their illegal actions", in spite of the addresses to all instances.
"I call upon you to voice your attitude to such cases of arbitrariness in Nakhchivan and render assistance in protecting my rights," reads Mr Rzayev's appeal.
