Defence announces protraction of Ibragim's case in Azerbaijan

The custody of Mamed Ibragim, an adviser to the chairman of the oppositional Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), has been unreasonably prolonged for a month, his defence said, adding that investigators are deliberately protracting the inquiry in order to falsify the case.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Mamed Ibragim was detained on September 30 following the complaint of a certain Mikail Guliev, who claimed that Ibragim had beaten him up. Mamed Ibragim's colleagues believe that his prosecution is politically motivated.

On November 13, the term of Ibragim's custody was extended for another month; and this decision was quite a surprise for his defence, Yalchin Imanov, his advocate, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"I see no point in protracting the preliminary investigation. In fact, all the investigatory actions are over," said Imanov.
