Abkhazia: opposition calls on to abolish post of Prime Minister

On October 26, the oppositional "Amtsakhara" Party issued a statement, in which it offers, in a short time, to reform the executive power in Abkhazia. In particular, they intend to "abolish the posts of Prime Minister and Vice-Prime Ministers, and to create, with this in mind, a single mechanism of executive power," the TASS reports.

Also, the party finds it necessary to "vest the Vice-President with particular powers through distributing functions among President and Vice-President to coordinate the activities of the Government and the Presidential Administration." With regard to the right to make final decisions, it must be preserved with the head of the republic (President).

"Thus, the President and Vice-President, elected by people, become really responsible for the general domestic and foreign policy of the state, while remaining under control also of the Public Chamber," says the statement.

So far, the leadership of Abkhazia has refrained from commenting on such proposals.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 21 participants of the extraordinary congress of the oppositional "Amtsakhara" Party expressed distrust to President Raul Khajimba and demanded his immediate resignation. Khajimba said that he would not resign until the end of his term of office.
