Human rights activists meet with mothers of the missing
On June 18, human rights activists met with mothers of missing young men who were abducted by officers of different federal security agencies during the last military campaign in the Chechen republic. The meeting took place in the Ingush office of the Information Center of the Society for Russian-Chechen Friendship. It was caused by the fact that over 45 women turned to the Society's Ingush office from June 12 till June 18 asking to help them search for their sons. During the meeting, participants discussed what measures could be taken under the Russian legislation to protest against criminal actions of federal and Chechen security agencies, which practice abductions, torture and extrajudicial executions under the pretext of fighting against criminality. Members of the Society also organized meetings of the suffered women with representatives of Amnesty International who were in Ingushetia at that time.
