Performance against IS staged on Ramzan Kadyrov’s father

The 64th birthday of Akhmat Kadyrov, the father of the current Chechen leader, was accompanied by religious and sporting events, solemn assemblies, and a theatrical performance, directed against the departure of young people to the war in Syria.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Chechnya had been strengthened security measures on the eve of Akhmat Kadyrov’s birthday. The authorities obliged local Imams and their believers to participate in religious ceremonies in honour of the holiday, although, according to Muslims, there is no tradition in Islam to celebrate birthdays.

On August 23, the republic’s theater-and-concert hall hosted a solemn meeting, where they screened a film about Akhmat Kadyrov. They also staged the play "My Way", dedicated to the 64th birthday of Kadyrov the elder. The plot is about a young man, who fell under the influence of Internet propaganda and decided to go to Syria to fight for the "Islamic State" (IS, earlier, ISIL – Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, recognized in Russia as a terrorist organization – note of the "Caucasian Knot"). However, Chechen power agents prevent his departure by telling him that his father had been killed by Wahhabis.

"The play brings the audience to the need to study the life and work of Akhmat Kadyrov, as well as the spiritual heritage of our teachers and saints in order to develop in the youth the moral and ideological immunity against pseudo-propaganda,” the IA "Chechnya Today" quotes Musa Akhmadov, the author of the play, as saying.
