Another Armenian oppositionist released from custody
The preventive punishment against Vagarshak Arutyunian, the member of the political council of the opposition party Anrapetutiun (Republic) and former Armenian defense minister, was changed late at night on June 11. He was released from custody after giving a written undertaking not to leave a place. The criminal case against the oppositionist has not been closed.
Vagarshak Arutyunian was arrested on the night of April 12-13, after the dispersal of a picket staged by the opposition near the president's residence. He is charged under three articles of the Armenian Criminal Code: with making public appeals to appropriate state power, insulting a state official, and appropriating state power.
Earlier, another member of the political council of the Anrapetutiun party, Suren Sureniants, had been released from custody after giving a written undertaking not to leave a place.
