Russian MoJ puts Rostov "Eco-Logic" on register of "foreign agents"

The Russian Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has included the Rostov city public organization "Eco-Logic" into the register of NGOs acting as foreign agents.

The law "On Foreign Agents", adopted by the State Duma of the Russian   Federation on July 13, 2012, demands from the NPOs, funded from abroad and engaged in political activities, to acquire the status of a "foreign agent". The initiative was criticized by activists of human rights organizations, who tried to challenge the law, but the Constitutional Court declared it to be compliant with the Russian Constitution.

According to the Russian MoJ, the Rostov "Eco-Logic" was included in the register on April 3.

"In the course of an unscheduled inspection held by the Chief department of the Ministry of Justice for the Rostov Region, officials have revealed that the organization complies with the features of an NGO acting as a foreign agent," the MoJ has explained.

Thus, the number of NGOs acting as "foreign agents" has exceeded fifty, the MoJ's website reports.
