EU condemns terror act in Ingushetia

The European Union (EU) has condemned the act of terrorism accomplished on August 17 in Nazran (Ingushetia), as a result of which  20 persons were lost and 138 more suffered. This statement was made by Sweden, current chair of the EU.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Russian State Duma did not exclude that after this terror act a counterterrorist operation (CTO) regime could be introduced in Ingushetia.

The "Interfax" notes that Sweden, now presiding in the EU, has named the terror act in Ingushetia to be a "brutal display" of terrorism.

"The EU condemns this barbarous act and expresses deep condolence to victims' families, other suffered persons, the people and Russian government," the ITAR-TASS quotes the EU's statement.

US President Barack Obama has also condoled with the government of Russia and victims' families and resolutely condemned the terror act.

"I am deeply concerned of today's explosion in Nazran, as a result of which 20 persons were tragically lost and 138 other were wounded," says Mr Obama's statement disseminated today by the White House. "There is no excuse of this sort of terror acts," the US President has stated.

"We express our condolence to the government of Russia and victims' families," he has added.

Alexander Cherkasov, a member of the Board of the Human Rights Centre "Memorial", believes that the terrorists' target in Nazran were not so much in law enforcers but citizens of the republic.
