Medvedev asserts that President of Georgia is "politically dead"

Russian President Dmitri Medvedev is sure that the ruling regime in Georgia is incapable, and President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili is a "dead politician."

"In our opinion, the current Georgia's ruling regime is bankrupt. President Saakashvili doesn't exist for us. He is dead from the political viewpoint," said Dmitri Medvedev in his interview to the RAI Italian TV Channel.

At the same time, Mr Medvedev has emphasized that Russia is ready "to discuss all possible issues, at the international level in particular, including the post-conflict settlement in this region."

Dmitri Medvedev also noted that the United States should reconsider their relations with Georgian authorities, "because of their aggression, which killed over a thousand persons," the "Gazeta.Ru" remarks.

In the meantime, international debates go on about the instigator of the war in South Ossetia. In this context, Russia will send a request to the OSCE in relation to the report confirming Georgia's aggression against this republic, Sergey Lavrov, head of Russia's MFA, told journalists.

On Monday, September 1, the Spiegel magazine published an article about some OSCE report, confirming that the war was launched by President of Georgia Saakashvili who had ordered to bombard Tskhinvali, which can be treated as a war crime, the RIA "Novosti" remarks. The report asserts that Russian troops moved in after Tskhinvali was seized.

"We saw this article in the Spiegel; and we've already sent a request to the OSCE asking whether such OSCE report really exists, and if yes, why it wasn't distributed among all the members of this organization; and why the observers who stay in Georgia for the money of all the OSCE member-states are writing materials, which are inaccessible to all these members. It's a most serious problem," said Mr Lavrov.
