Volgograd Regional Ombudsman improves custody conditions for pre-trial suspects

The Ombudsman for the Volgograd Region has managed to convince the GUVD (Chief Department of Internal Affairs) commanders to improve custody conditions of the suspects and detainees kept in the pre-trial detention facility of the city of Volzhskiy.

The cause for the investigation was an application lodged by one of the detainees to the Ombudsman. "A man of 23 complained of unsatisfactory conditions in the facility: insanitariness in the cells, one meal per day instead of three, absence of bedding, etc.," Mikhail Tarantsov, Ombudsman for the Volgograd Region, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Mr Tarantsov has informed that for several years in a row he had stated the inappropriate custody conditions at the Volzhskiy detention facility. According to his story, another appeal to the GUVD on the issue has brought some positive changes.
