In Azerbaijan, journalist Gusejnov discharged from hospital despite poor health

Today, Emin Guseinov, head of the Institute for Reporters' Freedom and Safety (IRFS), was discharged from the emergency hospital, where he had been taken in the state of unconsciousness as a result of the physical violence exerted on him at the 22nd police station of the Nasiminskiy District Interior Department of Baku.

"Doctors told me that they would not keep me long here, since it's the emergency hospital, where patients are just brought out of crisis condition," Mr Guseinov said in his conversation with the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Prior to leaving the hospital, the journalist was visited by Claire Delessard, political adviser of the EU General Secretary. She wanted to know whether the violence on the journalist was an accident or a deliberate action.

"My detention could be accidental. But when I was at the police station, human rights activists had already informed many officials, up to deputy minister of interior about the incident. Policemen knew that I was journalist and promised to let me free 'in a minute'. But finally, the situation turned out differently, and the man who gave me a blow in the police station knew that I was journalist," Mr Guseinov said to the EU representative.
