United Opposition of Georgia would not give up boycotting the parliament

Despite the doubts of its individual members, the United Opposition of Georgia sticks to its decision to boycott the work of the new parliament, which has appointed its first session on June 7.

"We're going to skip the first session of the parliament. We reject our deputy mandates, and we don't understand the statements of Giya Tortladze and Georgiy Tsagareishvili," Levan Gachechiladze, leader of Georgian opposition, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent after consultations of the oppositional parties.

In his turn, Georgiy Tsagareishvili, a member of the United Opposition, has informed the "Caucasian Knot" that he has not decided yet whether he would refuse from his mandate, and that he understood the position of Georgiy Targamadze, leader of the Christian Democratic Movement, that fight for democracy is possible both inside and outside the parliament.

"In no case we'll quit the battlefield. We'll just miss the first session of the parliament. But still, if the parliament will be able to work, even as a one-party version, the opposition should think about their actions in such conditions," said Mr Targamadze.

Another member of the United Opposition - Giya Tortladze - has noted that it is not clear to him, how it is possible to announce boycott to the parliament and, at the same time, receive money from the budget approved by this very parliament.
