Georgia quits air defence agreement with Russia

Today, Georgia has served a note to Russia informing the Russian party about its exit from the antiaircraft defence cooperation agreement.

The "Interfax" has reported today with reference to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia that on May 5 the plenipotentiary consul of Russia was invited to the MFA, where he was served a note about Georgia's exit from the agreement signed on April 19, 1995, by the defence agency of Georgia and Russian Ministry of Defence on cooperation in the area of antiaircraft defence.

We note here that the European Union has expressed today its serious concern with the escalation of tension in Russian-Georgian relations and has called on these countries to take efforts to restore their mutual trust.

Let us remind you that the Georgian MFA has re-refuted today the information about shooting down on May 4 of two Georgian reconnaissance drones, and has demanded that the UN start an investigation of the circumstances of the presence of Abkhazian air defence forces in the safety zone.

The "Caucasian Knot" has already informed that on May 4 Abkhazia announced that at 4:06 and 4:51 p.m. Moscow time two reconnaissance drones belonging to Georgian Air Forces were shot down in the air space of this republic.

On March 18 and on April 20, two more reconnaissance drones were shot down; they were made in Israel.
