Kukava: political terror in Georgia continues

According to Kakha Kukava, one of the leaders of the Conservative Party, pressure on candidates from the opposition and members of their families continues in Georgia. In the opinion of the parliamentarian, the pressure originates from the party in power - the United National Movement.

"Practically all oppositional activists are under pressure. A criminal case was opened against family members of two candidates for MPs: they try to prosecute one of them for some events three years ago; the other one (who was nominated in Adzharia) was pressed on to go away and refuse from taking part in the elections. But when this person did not obey, his family was arrested.

In the city of Gldani, I tried to find a room for an office of our Party for a whole week, but people were afraid to lease their premises; at the same time my competitor - candidate from the ruling party and sportsman Georgiy Asanidze - already had 16 offices," Mr Kukava said in his conversation with the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

He also informed the correspondent that the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) of Georgia had published voters' lists without doorway and apartment numbers, which makes room for future falsifications.

"This is another phase of the crime committed by Tarkhnishvili (head of the Georgian CEC, - note by "Caucasian Knot"). It was done deliberately, to hamper us in checking up the lists. They know that we want to reach every address and check the lists," Kakha Kukava has stated.
