Armenian Parliament cancels recent amendments to the law on assemblies

The OSCE's Office for Democratic Institutes and Human Rights (ODIHR) and the Venetian Commission of the Council of Europe have welcomed the decision of National Assembly of Armenia to make changes in the Law "On Rallies, Marches and Demonstrations".

"We find this decision to be another step towards strengthening the cooperation of the ODIHR and the Venetian Commission with the authorities of Armenia in the issue of legislative regulation of the freedom of public assemblies," runs the joint statement of Christian Strohal, Director of the ODIHR, and Gianni Bucuichio, Secretary General of the Venetian Commission. In their opinion, adoption of changes will allow getting back to the previous version of the law, which had been in due time approved by the ODIHR and the Venetian Commission, informs the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
