USA would not recognize Nagorno-Karabakh as an independent state

The US State Department has reiterated that it does not recognize Nagorno-Karabakh to be an independent state, but will continue its efforts towards peaceful settlement of the conflict.

The Department's communique runs that the USA continue their efforts towards peaceful settlement of the conflict. "The USA reiterate that they do not recognize Nagorno-Karabakh as an independent state, and its leaders are also not recognized by the USA and the international community as a whole."

In his turn, Jonathan Henik, head of the PR unit of the US Embassy in Azerbaijan, has stated in his conversation with the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that "the US policy towards Azerbaijan remains unchanged. We recognize the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and, as the co-chair of the Minsk OSCE Group, take all the necessary measures to achieve prompt peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict."
