Ingushetia: relatives of Chapanov killed by power agents are dissatisfied with investigation

The relatives of Yusup Chapanov, who was killed on February 1, 2008, in the centre of Nazran by employees of power agencies of the Russian Federation, express their discontent with the progress of investigating the murder.

Thus, Bashir Chapanov, the casualty's brother, has stated that the relatives were not informed about initiation of a criminal case. "We don't even know who my brother is qualified in the case: as a victim of power agents' arbitrariness or as 'a terrorist' whom he certainly was not," he said.

"I was told to present the victims of the murder, if any. I don't understand why the inspectors fail to establish the eyewitnesses by themselves. My brother was killed in the eyes of many people who saw the power agents put a pistol near the body of my brother and then took it away," Bashir continued. "Our senior brother Musa saw it with his own eyes, but the investigation and judges can certainly recognize his evidences to be biased."

"I talked to the witnesses of the murder; and they confirm that my brother, who had no weapons on him, was shot dead by power agents. But these people are afraid to confirm it to the investigation. In my opinion, the investigators are not interested to do their work properly," Bashir Chapanov has assured.
