Katanandov expects new players to appear in Kondopoga case

Sergey Katanandov, head of Karelia, does not exclude that in the course of investigation of the criminal cases, initiated on the outcomes of the events in the city of Kondopoga, new figures can appear. "Now, the prosecution office is investigating the behaviour of militia, new players can appear, and top-tank militia officials can be attracted," Mr. Katanandov said.

He noted that in the process of investigation the responsibility level can be increased for employees of law enforcement bodies, who had been responsible for situation in Kondopoga in September 2006, when pogroms burst out, the RIA "Novosti" reports. "I do not exclude that responsibility can be toughened if required," Mr. Katanandov said.

We remind you that the cause of the disorders in Kondopoga, Republic of Karelia, was a mass fight between local residents and natives from the Caucasus, during which two persons were killed. As a result of the disorders, practically all the members of national minorities, including the Chechen Diaspora, left Kondopoga.
