They tried to poison A. Litvinenko by thallium
The British police have initiated a criminal case on poisoning of Alexander Litvinenko, former FSB officer, the "Echo Moskvy" Radio reports. Doctors have established that an attempt on his life was arranged with the help of thallium - a highly toxic heavy metal. The health condition of Mr. Litvinenko is estimated to be stably grave. A complicated bone marrow transplantation surgery may be required.
Alexander Litvinenko, former employee of the Russian Federal Security Bureau (FSB), now living in the Great Britain, was interrogated some time ago by a Russian investigator in connection with the murder of journalist Anna Politkovskaya, the "Moskovskiy Komsomolets" newspaper informs.
Mr. Litvinenko, who is under search, recently came to Russia and evidenced on Politkovskaya's case by an investigator of the Prosecutor-General's Office, an anonymous source in Russian special agencies told the "MK." According to this source of the edition, he was interrogated by the same investigator who had initiated a criminal case against Litvinenko himself. The Prosecutor-General's Office is categorically refuting the fact of interrogation.
