Several meetings are planned to mark the 40th day of Anna Politkovskaya's death
Russian human rights activists have submitted a notification to the authorities on a picket to mark the 40th day after Anna Politkovskaya's murder, the "Echo Moskvy" reports. It is planned for the evening of November 15 in the Novopushkinskiy Mini-Park of Moscow.
Lev Ponomaryov, head of the organization "For Human Rights," has lodged the respective documents to the Prefecture of the Tsentralny District. The aim of the action is to draw attention of the authorities on the necessity to have a fast and efficient investigation of the journalist's murder.
A picket in memory of Politkovskaya will be also held in Astrakhan. It is organized by the National-Bolshevik Party together with the UCF (United Civil Front), the "Commersant in Volgograd" reports.
In Rostov-on-Don, however, the authorities rejected an appeal of citizens to hold a picket in memory of the murdered journalist, the "Kasparov.Ru" informs. The picket was to take place in the Bolshaya Sadovaya Street at the Lenin monument from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. However, the administration of Rostov-on-Don first transferred the picket to Pushkinskaya Street at the Public Library, and then changed the time of the action to 4:00-6:00 p.m.
