EU commission and Abkhazian authorities exchange data on conflict in South Ossetia
Hydi Tagliavini, head of the International Mission of European Union (IMEU) for investigating the reasons of Georgia-South Ossetia conflict, has visited Abkhazia.
Ms Tagliavini arrived in Abkhazia on March 2 and on the first day of her visit had a meeting with President of the Republic Sergey Bagapsh and Sergey Shamba, Minister of Foreign Affairs.
On March 3, the members of the mission had a meeting with Nugzar Ashuba, Speaker of Parliament of Abkhazia, Stanislav Lakoba, Secretary of the Security Council, and Garry Kupalba, Deputy Minister of Defence. During the meetings, possible reasons of the August events in the Caucasus were discussed.
Today, in the city of Gali, Hydi Tagliavini had a meeting with Ruslan Kishmariya, plenipotentiary envoy of the President. In the course of the meeting, the situation in the pre-border Gali District of Abkhazia was discussed. After her meeting with Ruslan Kishmariya, Ms Tagliavini has left for Tbilisi.
"It's our first visit and it can be treated as a courtesy visit. We exchanged information. Everywhere, we were accepted openly, our questions were answered and cooperation was promised in the further," said Ms Tagliavini.
She said that the members of the international commission also hoped to visit Tskhinvali. According to her version, the overall objective of the international commission was to cooperate with the parties in establishing the facts that had caused the conflict situation in Southern Caucasus.
